Birdman

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)

I saw this film off the back of dozens of reviews and discussions. This led to my expectations being higher than the average watcher. I was not disappointed. It is a film that has such a richness in story telling, emotion and themes. The story follows Riggan (Michael Keaton) a washed-up actor who once played an iconic superhero, who must overcome his ego and family trouble as he mounts a Broadway play in a bid to reclaim his past glory. (Taken from IMDb) The acting of the 4 main actors is beyond great, Keaton should win the Oscar for leading male, Edward Norton was sensational, Emma Stone’s best performance and the other cast members were amazing.

The cinematography of the film is the most memorable I have ever seen. It is shot as if to be one continuous shot, with barely visible edits. But as you watch, time does past and the whole film takes place over a few days but it is seamless and latches your attention.
As seen in the trailers, there is an obvious superhero element, this is played on in a very subtle way and is used sparing way.

In short this film is great and funny and definitely worth the watch.

Keep an eye peeled for ‘The Revenant’ - Google it, the cast and story are amazing and has the same director as Birdman, Alejandro González Iñárritu.

Also this month, try and catch Foxcatcher, American Sniper, Wild, Whiplash and Ex-Machina.

Peace Out…..

Cheers.
