Mad Max: Fury Road
I have not seen the other films with ‘Mad Max’ in their
name. I need to, because if those films came from the same mind as this 2015
film, then it must be worth watching. This is one of the best films of the year
for me, one of the best action films that has been made in the last 10 years
for me…
George Miller’s direction and the broad strokes of his
storyteller ability, will have you engaged from the opening scene and almost
doesn’t let up with out feeling tiresome or predictable. The casting is one of
the best things about this thing. Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult
are the three main cast members and all have such character and distinct
presence on screen. Tom Hardy is good in everything (Look up ‘The Revenant’….
It will be out of this world, I hope.) He is tough, unpredictable and yet
honourable in a dirty and gritty way, both figuratively and literally. Max is
visceral and yet kind in many ways. Furiosa is the definition of a strong,
dangerous and caring female character. She has agency and remains captivating
with her back-story being touched on with regards to her motives but also
leaves you with questions. Hoult is fun, sad and has probably the most
developed character arc. His lines and performance is brilliant.
This film has a style that is special. The contrast and
method of shooting day and night is stunning. The oranges, yellows and blues
keep your eyes working and this paired with the breath-taking action scenes,
gives you this constant adrenaline fuelled high. I heard a comment of this
being the driving equivalent to The Raid 2 for fighting. I cannot help but
agree with this. The action is creative, harsh and uses CGI in places that it
is needed.
The villain of the film is scary and intimidating with his 'property' all having their own defining features. They were all good and gorgeous.
The score is a mix of opera and techno drumming. It was amazing and one of my favourite soundtracks to film ever. The guitarist with flame spitting out was a highlight.

The ending is good as it finishes this film and allows for a
sequel, which I would love to see.
I think this film is almost perfect….
Gazzzzoline.... Water.... Wasteland.
